Selmi in Brazil: food managed with Pallet Shuttle system

21 Feb 2018

Mecalux will install the high-density Pallet Shuttle system in the warehouse the well-known food business Selmi owns in the Brazilian city of Rolândia. With an 1,800 pallet capacity, the racks will stand 11.5 m high.

Two blocks of high-density racking will be erected where two Pallet Shuttles will operate. One block will hold 750 pallets and the other 1,050. The six-level high racks will store 1,000 x 1,200 mm pallets with a maximum weight of 1,000 kg each.

The Pallet Shuttle is a semi-automated, high-density storage system where a shuttle with an electric motor runs along rails within the storage channels to carry out the loading and unloading of pallets autonomously. Shuttle operations will be managed by Wi-Fi connected tablets. The Selmi warehouse will be run according to the FIFO criterion (first in, first out), the best system when precise product turnover is required. The pallets will be loaded into one aisle and unloaded from the opposite end of the rack.

The automation the Mecalux Pallet Shuttle system offers enables operators to simply bring pallets to the channel entry point and to change the shuttle position when necessary.
